Tlatelolco is a housing complex in Mexico City — 21 floors of concrete and glass built in the 1960s. RETNA was commissioned to create a mural for the lobby. Upon seeing the building, he understood immediately what it required: black and white script across the lobby walls, matching the scale of the architecture. Designed by Mexican architect Mario Pani, the complex was part of a movement that integrated large-scale murals into public housing. RETNA was not the first artist to touch the building, but he was among the first to write his language on it.
